Corliss was three years old when she started skating in the small Alberta town of Rocky Mountain House. Sixty years on she is still actively participating and loving the sport of skating proving it truely is a “sport for life!” One of her skating mates growing up was Kurt Browning.

“I will always feel priviledged to have had the oportunity to witness a true star rise from a small town kid to a world champion, a true advocate to the sport of figureskating and a cherished Canadian”. They remain good friends today.

Corliss’ forte in skating was dance but also competed in singles throughout her school years, and completed her levels in Figures, Free Skate and Dance.

After High School she attended Mount Royal college and then the Foothills Hospital Nursing program becoming a Registered Nurse specialising in the Operating Room. She continued to skate for fun and in 1992 decided to add “skating coach” to her resume.

She attained her level two intstructors and became the head coach of the Whistler Skating Club near its inception in1994.

Over the years Corliss moved around but was always able to find a coaching oportunity wherever she landed. Clubs included, Fernie,B.C, High River,A.B, Lethbridge, A.B, Osoyoos, B.C. and now Vancouver Skating Club. During this time she developed her coaching status and is now a part level three “National Coach in training”.

For the past four years Corliss has also added “returning competative skater” to her list of activities, competing at a Gold level in Adult Masters skating competitions both locally and internationally and has been fortunate to find the podium each time. “ Competing at a world level in my favorite sport at this point in my life has been one of my greatest pleasures!”

When Corliss is not in the ice she may be doing home renovations or other large projects with her company Freshideas Interior Design, or other sports such as skiing, golf, cycling……

“I beleive in coaching with kindness, enthsiasm and encouragement, and look forwrd to working with all the skaters and coaches at VSC”.
