POWER SKATING PROGRAM

Skate Canada’s PowerSkate program focuses on enhancing the fundamental skating skills needed for hockey and ringette, emphasizing balance, control, agility, power, and speed. It’s a progressive program delivered by NCCP-certified Skate Canada coaches, designed to improve skating in game-like situations. 

  • Target AudiencePowerSkate is suitable for skaters of all ages who have achieved at least Stage 4 CanSkate experience, including those in hockey and ringette. VSC offers classes for the following ages U9, U11 and U13.
  • Program FocusCore Elements Focuses on four key areas: Balance – developing a strong, stable base for powerful strides and quick movements; Control – mastering edges, turns, and stops for precise and efficient skating; Agility – improving quickness and ability to change direction with ease; and Power & Speed – building leg strength and stride length for greater speed and explosive movement.
  • Lesson FormatThe program is structured with progressive drills that build upon previously learned skills. Skaters participate in warm-ups, development drills, and cool-down sessions.
  • ProgressionSkaters advance through the program by building on core elements to continually improve their balance, control, agility, power, and speed.
  • CoachesCoaches are certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
  • EmphasisPowerSkate emphasizes improved skating skills for hockey and ringette, enhanced performance in game situations, and a fun and challenging way to develop skating abilities.
  • EquipmentParticipants must have hockey skates, gloves, a stick, and a CSA-certified hockey helmet. Full gear is required.

  • Refund Policy - Power Skating ProgramWithdrawal more than 5 business days before the start date: Full refund less Skate Canada Fee. Withdrawal less than 5 business days but at least 48 hours before the second class: Refund less one class and Skate Canada Fee. After 48 hours prior to the second class: No refunds or credits. For weekly or summer programs, no refunds or credits will be issued if cancelled within 5 business days before the program start date.

Notes

  • Age is determined as of the first day of the session. Date of birth is required not only for program placement but also for Skate Canada membership registration. Membership includes insurance coverage in case of injury.

  • The Skate Canada Membership Fee is an annual fee, valid from September 1 to August 31.
